Pressure injury prevention is essential for individuals with disabilities, and many have experienced or suffered from this clinical complication in different stages. The consequence of pressure injury could vary from just having a sore area to more detrimental outcome such as substantial pressure wound site infection or even lead to death in some extreme cases.
There is a lot of misconception about pressure injuries. People do not understand that it is NOT a sole responsibility for the patient/carer or any of the health professionals. It is certainly not going to be sustainable or successful if a synergy/joint effort is not in place implemented by both the individual with disability and the multidisciplinary team.
